British Museum

British Museum

During a family stay in England, we made a long-weekend visit to London. While there, we hiked a couple miles from our hotel to the British Museum. The museum is a giant storehouse for articles acquired (controversially) during the days of the Empire. Highlights for me were the Rosetta Stone, the Greek statues and reliefs, and the mummies. A particularly interesting mummy had a Roman painted face. This was created for one of the rulers during the Roman occupation of Egypt. My grandson Ted’s favorite piece was a turquoise two-headed Aztec snake. He also wondered who broke all the statues. Ted renamed the place the “Broken-Statue Museum.”
